St. Francis Xavier Church
History of the church
The parishes of Gurpur and Neerude and some families now under the parishes of Kuppepadavu and Sampige were formerly under Ferar Parish. Ferar was part of Pezar parish.
In 1882 Rev.Fr.B.Baretto parish priest of Pezar built a chapel at Ferar and started offering Sunday mass. On 31.3.1912, Ferar was detached from Pezar and was constituted into a new parish dedicated to St. Francis Xavier. The Assistant Parish Priest of Pezar Rev.Fr.Reginald Pinto was made the first parish priest of Ferar. He started the parish elementary school. On 7.10.1915 foundation stone was laid for Gurpur church.
